Is mold damage covered by my insurance in the Hudson Valley, NY, NJ & CT area?
It depends on what caused the mold and the policy coverage you have. Molds need water or moisture to grow, but not all causes of water damage are covered by homeowners insurance policies.
Flood water damage is only covered by flood insurance.
Deferred maintenance is’t covered either.
Therefore, if one of these water or moisture problems results in mold, it would probably not be covered by your policy.
However if you had a burst pipe that caused the damage that most likely will mold removal be covered. Contact your home insurance agent.
